PART 1 of 3: Your hands are delicate appendages. Seriously, it takes little to cut, knick, scrape, slice, gash, or abrade that pink fleshy thing you call a hand. Therefore in tactical operations gloves make a lot of sense. Whether you are a cop, pilot, soldier, or civilian sheepdog, you can benefit from glove wearing. They protect your hands, keep them warmer for better dexterity, often give you a better grip, and provide better grasping stamina. This three part series covers several Damascus Gear and Hatch brand tactical glove models. As I cover their features, I also weave in my own glove experiences, preferences, and Philosophy of Use i.e. the features and considerations that might make your glove purchase useful in your operations. There are MANY good tactical gloves out there and this series in no way attempts to cover even a fraction of them. Instead I cover some relatively HIGH VALUE tactical glove models sold by Skaggs Public Safety Uniforms and Equipment store (who hosted the review). Be careful not to overpay for your tactical gloves. Several high end models exceed $60 in price and offer no more capabilities, better fit, or durability than the models shown. Key features of a successful a general purpose tactical glove design include: trim and tight FIT (that provides reloading and writing-level dexterity), smooth palm, synthetic leather or suede construction (dries faster), reinforced and well-stitched finger tips, easy on/off, quick attachable and stable cuff, good breathability, and good colors. Troops and vehicle operators engaged in operations that have high fire potential would be well served by the gauntlet style of Nomex tactical glove shown (Hatch Operator model; others are out there). As I show you here, for around $20 you should find a glove that satisfies most of those criteria. It is unrealistic to expect your gloves however to be ultra capable at all tasks (like heavy duty wilderness craft). To gain more dexterity, a well-designed pair of tactical gloves may have to sacrifice some durability and warmth. But for weapons operations, the gain in dexterity is well worth it. Just make sure you train with them on. Bottom line: Form fitting tactical gloves can improve your performance and will pay for themselves when they save your hands from injury. //////////////////Models Covered (an asterisk denotes a favorite model of mine): Easton baseball gloves (yup); Damscus Gear models: MX5000 HALO, MX20 NEXSTAR II, MX30 INTERCEPTOR, X3 V-FORCE, STEALTH-X, INTERCEPTOR-X* (awesome in Coyote Brown); Hatch Models: STREET GUARD, FLIGHT, THE GUARDIAN, ELITE MARKSMAN*, OPERATOR, SPECIALIST NS430*(for cool weather)//////////// Nov 2009: Skaggs Police Supply I believe has discontinued carrying many of these gloves. May be available online elsewhere.

  • After severing the flexor tendon in my right thumb (my dominant hand no less), in a completely preventable accident. I can attest to how important a good pair of gloves are. Im about 60% recovered, and am gunna pickup a good pair of gloves so this never happens again. Thanks for the review Nutnfancy.

  • Check out Asher Cooltech Deathgrip Gloves.... They market them for golf, but I use them for range shooting. Absolutely the thinnest, skin tight, most natural feel glove I have ever used. I searched a long time to find good light duty shooting gloves and these are by far the best. Plus they look freakin' cool with the skeleton/skull print. There's a pretty good review of them on here from a gun owner's perspective, just search for "Asher Cooltech Deathgrip".

  • As much as everyone complains about Nutnfancy, I honestly enjoy sitting down at night and watching about an hours worth of him talking...even if the subject is something I don't have much interest in.

  • You got to do a Blackhawk kevlar nuckle mold glove review

  • batting gloves are the best I bought a pair for 10 dollars at walmart and there perfect except that there have to much of a fancy design on them.

  • FACTORY PILOT® GLOVE w/ Leather Palm???

  • Just got Hatch Specialist NS430. Though I believe the size is right (ordered online), they are a bit tight around fingers. Is that normal with neoprene gloves? Thanks for the review!

  • I'm with a collegiate ambulance agency. What glove would be good for gurney handling, backboarding, etc. in a cold, snowy area?

  • Gloves like boots are hard to review.

  • @paquetstolte go away
