  • when I need to get to work, I need to get to work. rain or snow. I am not going to avoid the road. In fact I am generally MORE capable of controlling myself in inclement weather than motorists. Should I tell them they don't deserve to be on the road?

  • The cyclist rides too far to the right. He should take the League of American Bicyclists' "Traffic Skills 101" course to learn about lane control techniques that basically eliminate this motorist behavior.

I have taken the class, and I have pedaled around the mean streets of Louisville with a camera on my head for nine months and 2000 miles. In all that time there is no video of a close pass when I was doing what they taught me in that class!

  • whats up with the creepy lookin face at the end?

  • @6stringedkiller And I'm sure the stats back this up right? Or do you "just know"?

I ride my bike on the roads every day to work. Never had a problem, and 90% of the drivers don't either. So I guess you must be missing something, or must just be a prick. :)

  • Jeff, I was just surfing YouTube when I came across this video.

While it illegal in the D.C.-Metro region to ride on any of the Interstate roads(I-66, 270, 295, 370, 395, 495, 595, 695, etc.), I will ride on the state county n' city roads. When I do, I 'take the lane'. Because in 2007, I was riding the curb when a driver ran me off the road. I had numerous witnesses since it was at the main intersection in a small town. The driver had stupidity of lying to the police about not seeing me.

  • @6stringedkiller

Really? Does that make sense to you? Driving potentially inconveniences or kills people so we should all get off the road? With that logic why stop with bicycles? People die in plane crashes -- what were they thinking when they bought plane tickets?

The more rational conclusion would be to work towards safer conditions for everyone. You don't have to ground air traffic. Maybe petition for bike lanes and drive safe -- territorial pissings are unnecessary. Be safe.

  • if you dont like people yelling at you on the road, maybe you should get off the fucking road?

Its obviously ridiculously dangerous to ride a bike on the highway. Not just for bikers but for drivers too. Ive been in situations where ive had to cross a double yellow, and last week a biker was killed less than 5 minutes from my house.

get off the god damn road.

  • Well said, yellowjacket!

  • @warbelly - a) mountain bikes are heavy and slow. b) there isn't always a choice other than the road. I don't know the laws in other states or cities, but in Houston you can be ticketed for riding on the sidewalk because it is MORE dangerous than the street - i.e. people pulling out of parking garages and can't see you zoom up on your bike fast enough to stop. Oh and btw, I am a woman, and I'm not whining, I'm fighting for my rights.

  • This has to be a joke right? I thought they were called "mountain bikes'? Quit whining, you all sound like a bunch of women. Besides you don't think motorists have to deal with crazy drivers? We have to use the roads, you CHOOSE to use the roads.
