The reason Halsall is on bass was because Cale's regular bassist quit the band a few days before, leaving JC with a black eye. Cale flew into Spain without a bassist and a tv concert the next day so he called Ollie. When Cale toured Europe later that year Ollie was back on lead guitar duties.
@JohnnyCNote thats actually not true. John Paul Jones did play bass but according to him (who booked the session) the players were Clem Cattini who played the drums and Alan Parker played the electric guitar.
@rastacraw Jimmy Page did the guitar work on Hurdy Gurdy Man. In fact, John Paul Jones was on bass and John Bonham was on drums, so, except for Donovan, the band was 3/4 Led Zeppelin . . .
