Tony didn't paint the Mk 2, he made another one out of Gold-titanium alloy and painted red on it.

Only the red was painted on....... and he changed the whole metal the suit was made out of into gold titanium alloy. Some fans they are

@Wolta two suits were made for production, and two were made in the movie-

props- one was made of aluminum, and kept silver, another of plastic, which was painted red and gold.

movie- the first was made of stainless steel, which was too heavy, and iced up too easily. Tony had JARVIS make an exact copy, but instead of stainless steel, it was made with gold-titanium alloy to make it light-weight and less prone to ice.

At the end of the movie, Tony has two suits in his basement.

So are you implying that the Mk2 and the Mk3 are the same suite? Except the Mk3 is just the Mk2 but with replaced parts and red painted on it? If it's a yes, all my confusion about this subject will disappear.

@Wolta Shows what you know, the only reason that's partly true is because the two suits are the exact same shape.

I distinctly remember, in the movie, after the test flight, Tony said to, "Replace the external armor with the gold-titanium alloy they used on the satellites." to fix the icing problem.

In the final scene, just before Tony went to fight Stain, he told Rhodey to "keep the skies clear." When Rhodey turned around, the Mk II was right there, completely intact.
