  • PHP can do the same thing but better.

For people that are now learning to make websites, DO NOT LEARN THIS. learn php instead and you will not regret learning this now almost obsolete technology

  • Yes, I'm very old school. (but it works for now and my sites still pay my bills) lol I do plan to switch to PHP and will be doing a new video. Thanks for the feedback.

  • OMGOSH, Someone is still using SSI. I haven't seen touched a site using SSI since early 2000. I figured by now it would be obsolete because you have languages like ASP and PHP that could do the same and more.

I should get out my old notes about SSI and all the tricks I used to make it more dynamic. Wow, memories.

  • Glad I could take you down memory lane. :) Yes, many of us non techies still use it and love it. As long as it works, the browser can read it and my site continues to pay my bills, I'll continue to use it. lol

  • the code isnt working for me

  • Do your page names have the .SHTML extension instead of .HTML. And if not, did you add that snippet of code to your .htaccess file?

  • @Ormaaj While PHP can do a whole lot more than SSI, if it works for you, then it works.

  • Great Video. You make everything very clear and explain it.

  • Is SSI really that bad to use these days? If I just want to do something simple I would think this would be a perfectly adequate method. I just want to make an index page that updates itself (maybe with some bash or python).

  • This video is very good. Server Side Includes may be old but they are Powerful and Useful and SIMPLE.

    Thanks Lisa... for the video.
