This clip shows the atmosphere at an early rehearsal for Stockhausen's GRUPPEN. The oboist takes the A from orchestra 2 (center), then walks to orchestra 1 (left), then orchestra 3 (right). Finally, he gives the A to orchestra 2 once he returns there. From Lucerne Festival Academy, 2007.

  • One of my favorite things about going to the symphony is hearing them tune up. Someone should write something where an orchestra tuens their instruments for several hours.

  • I have always found the tuning of an orchestra, before playing no matter what piece, to be enthralling.

  • I used to be late for class just so I could walk past the orchestra room to hear them tune, maybe I was in the wrong class.

  • I love the sound of orchestra tuning. Does anybody have a PS3? If so, that's the start up sound for it. It's very cool.

  • Wow. So beautiful, the act of tuning an orchestra. When I tune my orchestra, I get shivers. So beautiful!!! :)

  • To VomitSelf7:

    I'm working on that :)

  • The first time I had ever tuned with a full orchestra I got chills. It's simple yet so beautiful.

  • I love the tuning, the coming together as one....
