Cybercriminals claim a million victims a day with an online scam that McAfee Labs predicts will cost consumers the most money in 2010: scareware. Scareware appears as legitimate looking pop-up alerts warning users their computer is infected and prompting them to install malware disguised as security software. Stevie Wilson, a scareware victim who lives in Los Angeles, shares her story in this video.

  • but.....my computer came with mcafee....

  • use linux for a virus free computing experience that is not going to waste processor cycles scanning for viruses.

  • the feeling of terror is perpetuated by AV companies. Viruses are usually more of an annoyance than a disaster. The manufacturers of cleaning products use similar psychology.

  • This is why I use Linux Ubuntu and Linux Mint ... There are no known Linux viruses on the web. Any Unix based or unix like OS is safer than Windows ... Linux, BSD ,Mac OS all safer than Windows. Linux , and BSD are free.

  • @ukpropaganda thats why i have kaspersky

  • when i was 13 i got a computer on my bday and after 2 weeks this crappy thing just came up and said i had a virus in my computer! I downloaded the virus itself just because of the fake threat! but its alright now cause my mum is a real expert at computers and fixed everything damn thing for only 6 hours! FEWWWW!!!! :)

  • Wow. This is interesting.

  • Scam company who make some of their OWN viruses.

Thanks, McAfee, for the virus you sent me disguised as an update!

Thanks for giving my PC trojans to slow it down, then send me e-mails offering 'help' to speed my slow computer's performance.

    McAfee : Fraudsters, crooks, criminals.
