  • @lenguini93 well im glad I saved you the effort. :) the rma process is even worse

  • Wow, you got a replacement that worked? on my third one now and it is clicking and making this neat "scree"ing noise, like metal on metal :P

    Thanks for the post!

  • @geekydee yw. Im glad making a video helped some. Yet there are others that bicker and bitch about me making this video. Im just pointing out the obvious that Hitachi Sucks!!!! And caution it if all your data goes bye bye in less than 24 hours

  • mine has failed after about 3-4 months too

  • Just got this POS drive mounted it and everything correctly and its freaking loud...

  • @lesbianbob

Like all products and companies, they all have their POS. I have an 8 year old Hitachi travelstar 30 GB drive running in an ancient laptop that is still working, and have a 2 week old 3rd replacement drive making all sorts of neat noises and when you disconnect it and gently rotate, it sounds like sand inside. I have it sitting on a rubber mat since it was making too much noise on the glass desk I was working with it on :P

  • @c0rrupts3ct0r555 About 12 years ago, WDC was in dire financial straits and licensed Deskstar designs from IBM and manufactured them as the Expert series. An example was the 18GB WDC model AC418000, which was identical to the IBM Deskstar 22GXP.

  • @lesbianbob yeah im currently using the replacement they sent me. so far so good, ive got data on it.. just hoping it doesnt die and yes it literally has about 12 hours of total on time in the 4+ months since ive had it...

  • @elewsive I'm not saying you broke the HD, only that if a failed drive contains valuable data (and I'm not saying yours did), that's not a good way to treat it. I don't have nearly enough Chinese 12/2010 5K3000s to draw conclusions about the quality, but they're still working without a glitch, as are my Chinese 3/2011 5K3000s and about every HD I've bought that wasn't bumped or dropped. OTOH both my IBM 75GXPs did in the first year.
