Jacki Davis interviews Margot Wallstrom. Informed dialogue and debate are vital to a healthy European democracy. Citizens have the right to know what EU leaders are proposing and to influence the EU policies. The commission works on closing the communication gap between the EU institutions and the people and engages in public dialogue.

  • I'm quite refreshigly suprised to see the EU propaganda channel hosting some actual honest debate, even if nothing was actually debated.

What was actually asked in French?

  • roughly - isn't it a problem that much of the EU communication is in English when not everyone speaks English?

  • @lonbowo Why? People don't say "I'm Asian", "I'm North American", etc. So why should we make it sound like our continent is all the same?

  • La réponse à la question en français - c'est 'Oui'!

Which language in the EU has the most native speakers? Which has the most speakers on the various continents? Perhaps they should also be the 'official languages' of the union.

  • Margot Wallstrom has recieved 1.9 million Euros for her 10 years as "communication" commissioner and is entitled to another 1 million in benefits when she retires. Her "communication" dept. had a budget of 2.4 BILLION Euros for 2008 alone, paid for by us taxpayers ( Source : Open Europe ).

These un-elected "elites" are Europe's new royalty.

Good Luck to the Irish...the only Europeans "allowed" to vote on the Lisbon constitution.

  • hi the eu is great but we need more pr more tv radio newsetc everyday and, more elegant snazzy eu flags in all cities in europe great. be proud for eu a symbol for ecofriendly democratic soft power come together eu fr johnnyb.

  • So ummm...... were those bluppers at the end or what?

  • wow.....bitter.....

  • it's really good to hear her talk, i like her! nice to hear.....until it goes into french! aaah va fan some of us dont speak french can we get subtitles please :-P probably should...since most international treaties are negotiated in french....but im just not there yet :-P

  • wow that was pretty neat

  • hi eu is great we need more channels eu radio news etc taths very important fr johnnyb.

  • Though polls have shown in both Europe AND Turkey ( population 72 million ) that a majority are against Turkey joining the EU....public opinion is being ignored ( as usual ) by Brussels.

The Lisbon Treaty insists that all states should expand their "military capabilities" ( page 39 ), and Turkey's membership will make the planned EU military machine LARGER than that of the U.S.A.!

What for and with whose money ?

    Our money !

Vote in June's European elections for democracy and peace.
