1970 Plymouth Superbird with a 426 Hemi and a 4 on the floor pistol grip shifter. These cars were specifically designed for Nascar racing. These cars came in 3 engine options. The 426 Hemi, the 440 Super Commando and the Super Commando Six Barrel. The cousin of the Superbird was the Dodge Charger Daytona which was built in 1969. As you can see the rear spoiler adds weight to the back of the car which keeps the back tires down at high speeds. The front nose was added to the front for more aerodynamics. Unfourtanatley this would be the only year Plymouth made the Superbird. There were only 1,920 Superbirds made. Also Richard Petty raced a Plymouth Superbird in Nascar in 1970.
ironiclly after the first year they used the superbird nascar banned them because they were so stable at high speed that no other car could keep up, even at the superspeedways like telladega
