George Soros and Alain de Botton in discussion at the Royal Geographical Society in London September 12 for the Artangel Longplayer Conversation 2008 - an event which brings together two cultural thinkers who have never met before to engage in a public discussion inspired by the philosophical premise of Jem Finer's Longplayer, a musical composition playing for an entire millennium, suggesting a timescale beyond our own lifespan.

  • The 2009 Artangel Longplayer Conversation takes place on Sept 12th at the Roundhouse in London, featuring a 12-hour long relay of back-to-back conversationalists including writers, psychotherapists, mathematicians and many more.

The first ever live performance of a section of the Longplayer musical composition takes place at the same time in the main space, to be played by 25 musicians on a 20-metre-wide instrument for 1000 minutes.
