In this part, Mia talks with her client and gets a lot of information about the kidnapping and murder case, five years ago. It was a fake kidnapping, perpetrated by Dahlia Hawthorne (the kidnap victim), Valerie Hawthorne (the police detective) and Terry Fawles (the kidnapper). They did this in order to get a diamond worth two million dollars, but at the last moment, the Hawthorne sisters turned on Fawles and pinned the whole thing on him.

I've heard people claim that Dahlia was lying to Terry when she said Valerie was in on the kidnapping plot, but I can't figure out Valerie's actions whether she was in on it or not.
