Singer/Songwriter Don Gibson was originally from Shelby, NC, and he wrote and recorded some of the most famous country and crossover pop songs in history. Among them, "I Can't Stop Loving You" (a hit for Ray Charles) and Patsy Cline's incredible "Sweet Dreams". In 1957, he wrote this song, "Oh, Lonesome Me", and it raced to the top of the country and pop charts in March of 1958.

  • @Nocaro Roger Miller I believe is the Roger he means

  • @flashbell Here's a copy of what I had originally noted: "Singer/Songwriter Don Gibson was originally from Shelby, NC, and he wrote and recorded some of the most famous country and crossover pop songs in history. Among them, "I Can't Stop Loving You" (a hit for Ray Charles"...in that statement where did I credit Ray Charles for "Oh Lonesome Me"???

  • @flashbell Who did that? Obviously Ray made it a hit, but Don's writing of the song has always been credited.

  • @stockcar4d There's a great deal of serious Roger Miller tunes. He's one of my personal favorites for that reason. He can make you laugh or move you to tears.
