Elvis Presley I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Written by Hank Williams, Sr. Elvis never recorded this song in the studio, but sang it live in the 1970s. He introduced it during the Aloha from Hawaii via Satellite concert on January 12, 1973. It is available on Aloha from Hawaii via Satellilte, Welcome to My World, and Walk a Mile in My Shoes: The Essential 70s Masters.

Hear that lonesome whippoorwhill
He sounds too blue to fly
The midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When leaves began to die
That means he's lost the will to live
I'm so lonesome I could cry

The silence of a falling star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you are
I'm so lonesome I could cry
I'm so lonesome I could cry

  • in awe awesome origanal artist and the king

  • He sings it so much better than Hank Williams.

  • No one beats Hank's own version but Elvis comes closest. It's one of the greatest songs ever written. The emotional power is enormous.

  • mom and dad rest in gods peace dad i miss your guitar playing life is more empty without you both

  • I love Elvis but Ole Hank sang it better.

  • Only from the BEST "Hank Williams, Sr. I think of my Danny, who I lost on Nov. 17, 1965 at LZ-Albany in Vietnam (9 months to the day after our daddy had died. My brother and mother lost their will to live. I was barely 8 yrs. old. Thank you, Elvis, Hank, and all the others that keep me going today.
