Said: As good control by straight playing, as by fanning, can be acquired by practise
Goran reply: Definitely not, like previous comment. It is not meaningful to fight natural laws! Looking at the success by others to manage otherwise offers poor arguments since in matters like this it is necessary to compare with oneself only and to be critical about the results.
Goran reply: Definitely incorrect! It is a simple mechanical fact that it is impossible to achieve the same degree of precision and control by straight bellowsing as by fanning. Stability is the clue !
There have been some discussion and remarks about these playing methods and I would like to add some comments.
Said: Fanning makes you sacrifice half the volume of the bellows
Goran reply : Literally true but only rarely of any practical importance since the reduction mostly is generously compensated by the increased efficiency. Of course some music demands full capacity ..or even more
Reply to IrelandsCrusader: Thanks! Hmm, you definitely can practise the "fanning" with the Anglo too and surely many players do so more or less... and the "ergonomic handle" is easy to apply to the anglo as well!
A player who uses the methods "fanning the bellows" and a "cross-the bellows strap" very nicely is "ProfRat". Check for instance the tunes "Roslin Castle" and "Rat in the Bed"
