1983 Canadian Pop Adult hit, "The Haunting" by The Front (Featuring Tim Thorney and Paul Henderson).
"The Haunting" (lyrics)
Gina has a problem
she thinks she's gonna change the world
puts it down on paper
sends it to no one

Leslie gets a phone call
tells her that it's over
wipe the stars out of your eyes
you're talking survival

Jimmy Loves Mary-Ann
wants to play by the rules
holds the only dream he can
hopes he's not the only fool

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and going nowhere
be careful want you want dear
what you're gonna find there

Leslie's making movies
likes it all in black and white
brings her into focus
then misses the moment

Now, Gina's at a party
she wants to live forever
if she could just hold on to this
maybe things would be different

Now, Jimmy Loves Mary-Ann
wants to play by the rules
holds the only dream he can
hopes he's not the only fool

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and going nowhere
be careful what you want dear
what you're gonna find there

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and going nowhere
be careful what you wish for
what you're gonna find there

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and getting nowhere
be careful what you want dear
what you're gonna find there

They're afraid of the haunting
running fast and getting nowhere
be careful what you want dear
what you're gonna find there

  • i remember this song when i was in the 7th grade. moved to california from calgary in the mid80s and one particular station used to play this single from time to time. have not heard it since then. been looking for it for 20 years when finally googled the lyrics and found out info for the band and the single. took me another couple of years and found a single record for sale in the vancouver area, brand new, through the internet. the guy sold it me as well as cd version which he burned for me.

  • @csx999 You might like to know that The Front's music is now available for purchase on iTunes.

I also loved the single off of their follow-up album, "Underlworld."

  • This is one of those great, quintissentially '80s synth tunes--what did they use, a Fairlight, or something?

This gem was in heavy rotation on a few Calgary AOR stations (e.g., 107.3), in 1984.

  • I've been looking for this song for a long long long time. Thanks so much!

  • Sure, I'll join the list of others who have been 'haunted' by this song for years. I was just coming out of BCIT in Vancouver on a practicum in Kelowna where this got a fair bit of play at the radio station where I was working. First time I've heard it since May, 1983.

  • I was in the 10th grade when this first came out. $hit I'm old. Added to my fav's, THX for uploading. BTW, was there ever a music video released for this?

  • @alphamommy89 You're welcome! I've always loved this song too! By the way, "The Haunting" is now available on iTunes. Check out their other song, "Underworld" - nice uptempo tune...great hook too!
