  • they can rarely capture on screen what you get from the books. not even close here imo.

  • Never, ever knew the BBC show came before the book!

  • say whatever you want about the crappy production values in this miniseries, but it was what got me into Neil Gaiman's stuff and for that Neverwhere will always have a place in my heart.

  • Since Neil did the casting for this a good while before he finished the book I think we should acknowledge his choices. I think it's the low budget that really let it down unfortunately. Not enough cinematics: it needed more music, better lighting and more camera angles. That scene wasn't the least bit tense... it felt like a CBBC programme.

  • @captainfluoxetine - Croup and Vandemar are pretty good, too (better than I expected, anyway). Paterson Joseph (Carabas), on the other hand, was really bad in this. Danny John-Jules would have been great, and he already had experience playing a cat in Red Dwarf.

  • @MsSalinas100 Aye, TBH I'm not that keen on most of the casting. Door is great and Richard is okay. Rest of the casting... meh.

My main problem was de carabas being white. Simply because I pictured him as being in appearance and acting like david tennenet playing dr who!

  • @ThedaOtticey Came around the same time :) I only know because I just read an interview with Gaimen. Apparanrtly the director of the TV series almost killed him for repeated use of the phrase "Nevermind, Ill just put it in the novel." everytime one of his ideas was cut :P

  • @kentobeatbox read comments below

  • @ILLER121 Show was before the book :D

  • @PabloCorinthian i know! my brother told me that before he recommended the book. it doesnt matter which way around it was, the book is still better.

gaiman may have released the book after but he obviously had things written down before they started filiming the show. they didnt just make it up as they went along lol. it worked better as a book in my opinion. we dont need to learn anything because its based on opinion. why do you think he released the book after? because he could capture more

  • @ILLER121 @MsSalinas100 @kittenmyu @TereruTsuki Book came after the series. Gaiman did this before he wrote the book. Learn a bit more before you guys say anything

  • didn't picture those 2 bad guys like that but most people act there part so well

  • I wouldn't mind seeing this made into a film, but it would depend on who would direct it and how much involvement Gaiman would have.

Because as brilliant as I think they could make this, I'm very aware how badly they could butcher it as well.............

I also find it crazy how different the book is from the mini series, especially given that it was written and story boarded for the BBC and the the final draft of the book came out about a year later lol =)

  • I thought Hunter was going to be a sexy tall ginger. :O

  • i pickered humter with brown hair, white complected and much more pretty.... this does look like a parody....

  • this looks like a parody :P

  • once again, would have made a much better anime....

  • @rhettbutler96 Why so?And if it were a TV series?

  • @Vrathal I would LOVE to see this as a TV series in 2011-2012~!

  • The book is so much better! Almost all the characters are wrong xS

  • The only character who looks even remotely like the book describes them is Vandemar...

  • I didn't think that Mr. Vandemar actually howled when the book said that. and watching him beat up Richard was pathetically boring.

  • @ILLER121 I agree. American Gods would suck as a film

  • @rhettbutler96 yer i know, but it doesnt really matter what way round they came. when i read a book i can imagine things how i want, and this isnt how i imagined it.

i think its the same with all neil gaiman books though. they just dont translate to film very well, i dont know why. maybe its something to do with his style. the only one i really liked as a film was Coraline. His best book is obviously American Gods, but they could never pull that off as a film!

  • @ILLER121 the show came before the book, just so you know

  • I would love to see a film adaptation, with a larger budget. Would be interesting.
