I wrote this poem because the state of the world and the politics of America's leaders and others' are a big concern to me. Priscilla (Priloomis) and I discussed this back in July and she provided a beautiful drawing that I used in my video alongside other pictures & drawings I found online. Kris Shred provided the background music and enhanced my voice to make me sound all cool. ;-)
Here is my poem:
Voice of Reason
We are not at war.
It is our leaders who made that fateful choice.
We are people underground.
We perpetuate a communication, another voice.
It is the anti-voice.
The voice of reason that we have come to know.
Within ourselves it exists.
The voice of reason lives within us alone.
It travels high and low.
Through wires, circuits and waves it flows.
It travels unchecked.
Inked paper, scratched for the furious cause.
With speed and determination
the writing is on the wall, on the gravestones.
Those with a muted voice
shattered by war and ignorance not their own.
They are buried here, again muffled.
The truth yet travels far and wide, underneath
the vacant eyes of the so-called wise.
Who have not much aside from pride.
Do they even know us?
They refuse to see us,
they refuse to see what we see.
Distracted by power and greed.
Money exchanges greasy palms
of the war mongers who thrive while we cry.
And the people, the people
They continue to write about their fight.
The people write about love.
For they love one another so much more
than what the politics
decry.
It is just a fallacy to create more hate and lies.
But underground exists.
The people, the people true heart and soul
of the world that we believe in.
We gather across nations and seas in hope.
Our hands may never meet
but our hearts are deep in each other
reaching out when we can't speak.
Our words join underground together.
Oh the ways of condemnation
of twisting our lives to dwindle downward
when we have no such indignation
against others and what is spread forth.
Again the lies which we are told
Hang on this, our ever word, and we will bring you freedom.
And they blind themselves what we behold
The lives of men and their many creations which lead them.
Our art is our voice
Our love for one another is our choice
Never gagged or mute.
We do not deny our love in the underground.
Where we shelter each other
from the ways of our so called leaders
and we smile at another
with no faces or names. We are simple. We are people.

I've always felt that war is not the answer. I have always thought that love and communication are key to friendship among people and nations.
"When the power of love is greater than the love of power, the world will know peace."

But we are no gods, only people, and as such, we fight, we break, we fall, we rise, lose and regain peace and keep singing the song of the heart that wishes to lay down the swords.

beautifully said. We can still spread the voices of peace and reason despite all who would silence them.

Hello Aleisha, nicely done. If only there was an end in sight for, as you say, "the lies that we are told". I enjoyed your video. Thanks, Ray.
