  • @smada9711 it's not because they are being "Anti-Communist" but more because they are ashamed of their Chinese heritage. People from Japan get more respect and even nowadays Korea is getting more respect, and Chinese people from Taiwan want to be as cool as Japan and Korea, so they are trying to fabricate a "Taiwanese" ethnicity so they can escape all the shame of being Chinese. No unity between them at all. Truly the "Sick Men of the East"

  • @smada9711 can't agree more with you on this one..

  • @guitarhamster102 the problem is, even most of the ppl in Taiwan call themselves Han Chinese.

  • It's kinda sad that even though China has a rich and unique culture, "Taiwanese" people who are "Anti-Communist" are taking it to the extreme and can't even acknowledge their Chinese heritage. That's like me claiming I don't want to be compared to North Koreans, so we should call people from the South as "Seoulrean" hahah or overseas Vietnamese as "Saigonese". There are other ways to disagree with a government, rather than to trying to erase your whole heritage. Taiwan aka "Republic of China".

  • My parents were born in Taiwan so I'm TAIWANESE American. There's NO f-ing way I want others to call me Chinese because Chinese people act VERY differently from Taiwanese people. And I don't like mainlanders' accents.

  • lol, according to your saying, there should be cantonese or hongkongnese.

  • @raininthesouth Hello. I doubt the so-called homogenity of the Taiwanese folks. For one thing, we have heard that Taiwanese Hakka suffers from 蠶豆症 more frequently than Hoklo. Some aboriginals did not mix with them either. Let's look at research by the Japanese scholars on the genetics of the Taiwanese Han. Just google Molecular Genetic Analysis of Remains of a 2,000-Year-Old Human Population in China—and Its Relevance for the Origin of the Modern Japanese Population. Check out the conclusion.

  • @liuyurui Ok, i am going to go. This is a really intense and heated discussion. People are going to disagree. I can tell you based on what I am observing the Chinese and Taiwanese will have a lot of conflicts in the future. That's hinting at the reality of the Taiwanese ethnic identity. It's happening as we speak and it worries Beijing. I say to the Chinese learn from your own culture. 夷狄入華夏,則華夏之; 華夏入夷狄,則夷狄之. Otherwise, there's going to be more conflicts and bloodshed in the future.

  • @liuyurui I think if the Chinese let other people decide for themselves, they will get a better showing than if they force others to accept the Han Chinese cultural identity. LIke you said 夷狄入華夏,則華夏之; 華夏入夷狄,則夷狄之. Those who want to be Chinese will be Chinese, those who don't will one day assume another ethnic identity. If you have a culture you feel proud of, just continue it. You shouldn't care if someone chose not to identify themselves as Chinese. Let people decide for themselves.
