  • So glad to have found this. Like others, this song has long been a favorite of mine, as it reminds me so much of growing up on the farm here in eastern N.C. Thank you!

  • Fordtruxdad, (Sorry for the delay in responding) Thank you so much for your kind words. I'm pleased you enjoyed the record. This grand old tune is so eloquent of the simpler time of youth.

    Regards, J.

  • My grandmother, Ruth Fones, sang this song often. It brings back happy memories. Thank you

  • Danniedee1, I so love hearing of the fond memories of my listeners. Thank you so much for sharing. I'm pleased you enjoyed the clip.

    Regards, J.

  • John, if this song had just been written, it would be called "The cheap plastic bucket."

  • Rocky, The bucket would wear out before the song could be written! ;-)

    YF, J.

  • Is Billy Murray singing lead?

  • What I don't understand is why this video, available only at 240p, is downloading so incredibly slowly. It can't be my connection as other videos are far quicker. (Just writing this for something to do while I wait....and wait....and.....).

  • I recall my grandmother singing this and playing it on the old hand crank victrola in her house. I live about 3 miles from the Woodworth homestead in Scituate, MA and where the well still exists (I suspect the wooden bucket is a replacement)

    Thanks for posting this.

  • I have a video on YouTube of my mother singing "The Old-fashioned Apron," also known as "The Apron Song." She often said that the tune was based on the song you have here. It was her most requested song.

  • I remember this song so well! Dad taught me to harmonize with it.

  • It's great, but they changed the lyrics? Not by much, just a few words here and there. Wonder why they did that.
