I attached two little plastic lenses to an OLPC XO and - voila - A $1 video 100X magnification video microscope. Here I took some video on my XO of a standard laptop screen, the unique XO screen, and printed paper. It's interesting for kids to see what happens at close. The XO video microscope could be very useful, for example, for looking at water and seeing if any little things are swimming in it.

  • hi all, here are some more details. I used an $1 microscope that I bought on ebay. It's 60-100X, I duck-tapes it onto the screen and used the now hi-res video camera. attached are pictures of the simple optics (I need to find a way to attach pictures. They are just two small plastic lenses.

  • but, Will It Blend?

  • how do i get my video off from my xo on to youtube or just how do i get it off

  • OMG a geek milf. Fuck me now.

  • This was just what I was looking for, a comparsion of a standard laptop screen and the OX screen.

I'm quite pleased that it was possible to do that with this simple modification of the XO itself.

Did You disassemble Your XO-camera for that purpose or did You use a second OX?

  • ePaper (at least the version in the Amazon Kindle) has a slower response time, OK for eBooks but not animation or fast motion.

  • my boytoy says my behind is like a truck, think so?

  • Sorry for such a stupid question but how did you get the video off the XO and onto YouTube? Ubergeeky details OK, I'm just not familiar enough with the XO to figure it out.

  • wow you have a lot of time on your hands. I really appreciate you making this video.

those microscopes are pretty useful for inspecting the color of the trichome heads on my marijuana plants to determine whether or not they are ready for harvest.

What kind of Thinkpad is that? I think I have seen diagonal lines going across a standard X31 XGA display before when viewed from certain angles... is it possible that they have same kind of screen as the OLPC?
