A rare visitor to the area, Canadian Pacific's Hudson 2816 finds fans young and old trackside as it rolls south toward Chicago. A shiny machine, she shows those of us south of the Canadian border what one of Canada's finest steamers used to look and sound like, punctuated by the "I love trains" from one of the bystanding (young) kids.

  • She's from Scotland originally in 1882

  • Thanks for the info - I hope she'll be back in service soon.

  • Nothin beats Canadian Steam, whether it be the 2816,2860,6060,or Old No.3 in Manitoba, check pdcrailway dot com to see

  • Certainly very fine machines, especially No.3!

Even if she's an "American" type :) :)

  • That's not a royal hudson. Royal Hudson's have streamlining but nice video anyway.

  • Thanks for pointing this out. I was not aware of the streamlining distinction. Guess I have to change the title....

  • I don't if anybody else knows but the auxillary tender that 2816 pulls is actually a tender off of a Deleware and Hudson Challenger (#1352 I think) It's the only other piece of a challenger locomotive that survives that is not a UP locomotive.

  • The diesel behind the steamer was a GP38-2, not a dash 9 anything.

    Excellent video!

  • I live near here. Good Ol Portage, Wisconsin

  • Nope, this is in Wisconsin. It's on the SOO. However, they did go through Portage la Prairie, MB on this trip.

  • I believe thats a GP unit

  • Well all Hudson engines to my knowledge are designated as Royal by decree, I think the Hudson people think of most is the 2860.

  • in manitoba? thats where i live!!! lol i like the dash 9 in the middle between the cars and the steam engine but it's ok even the BIG Great steams may need a little help............. i think.....
