@impastable Definitely true. That's why you see studios with small vocal recording rooms. They may only use a single condenser mic, but that sound is bouncing off the walls and such and entering the mic so not much is missed. Good mic placement is key for outdoor venues. Good point.

@RLtherichman good recordings (and good live music) come from multiple different mics feeding into the same channel to make sure every piece of the sound is captured. the first thing i noticed was how great the piano sounded, and good miccing is why. sorry for the nerdy answer, hope it helps.
