    I think it doesn't matter really, though just as a side note, Tibetans almost always do stuff in a clockwise direction, following the traditional direction of prayer paths. (The original Bon people do the opposite but there are few of these left in this tradition.) The biggest tip is to hold the mallet very firmly against the bowl -- that seems to make the biggest difference when learning to play. Best of luck to you!
