There is a more serious problem. Both geneologies trace Jesus ' ancestry through the Accursed Branch of the houses of Coniah and Jehoiachim, both of whom "did that which is evil in the sight of God". The seed of these evildoers was barred forever from sitting on the throne of David. The Jews expected that their messiah would sit on the throne of David. Nowhere does the New Testament show Jesus attempting to explain to the Jews why he should be nevertheless be regarded as their messiah.

That's a possibility. It just struck me as odd that they would try and trace Jesus' line through David.

My apologies to you, GalacticAtom, for the conflict on your video between me and HAILMASTERSATAN. After this I will just leave the little prick to have his say and not answer him further.

HAILMASTERSATAN: You know, you are really only exposing yourself as a puerile (look it up) juvenile who didn't get enough attention from his daddy (if he knew who his daddy was). Why don't you go away until you grow up?

hey fatass
Very good video my friend. Here is a question I have about the genealogy. Why would there even be a need to go through Joseph? Joseph was not Jesus' natural father. i.e., Jesus did not have Joseph's blood. Therefore Joseph's bloodlines really could not be used to establish Jesus' line to David. Hope you understand what I mean. Any thoughts?

I understand what you mean, and I have long wondered that myself. It seems that in their attempt to show that Jesus fulfilled the prophecy that the Messiah would be of the House of David, the Gospel writers had something of a mental lapse!

I think you are right. The numbers game he used with the 14 generation gap, AND my firstborn reasoning were both wrong. However, npage85's claim that Luke's genealogy said it was from David to Joseph, but was "really" from David to Mary is just a speculation on his part that doesn't work. He claims "extra-biblical" support, without citing it specifically by name, but that, too is suspect. And I would take it as equal to the spurious interpolations of Eusebius into the Jesus accounts by Joesphus.

I agree. If he has extra-biblical support, we need to know what it is. In all the times I've seen this claim made, I don't think I've ever seen the support actually cited.
