The Golden Spike Chapter has started restoration of UCRY 1237, a GE 44-ton diesel originally built for the U.S. Air Force for use in the battlefield (you heard that right, this is a combat locomotive!) with special characteristics to make it less susceptible to gunfire. It was donated to the Utah State Railroad Museum, which in turn leased it to the Utah Central Railway. When the lease was over, it was returned to the museum, where it sat deteriorating while on display. Now the goal is to get it running again.
