@MVillani1985 If I were to compare that game to any recent Penn State loss, I would perhaps compare it most to the 17-10 loss to Michigan in 2006, except neither side had as many sacks, PSU had one on Pryor and OSU sacked Clark I think twice. However, this year I have to admit that I don't think the Lions will be that good this year. How do you predict PSU does in 2010? You may be shocked at how pessimistic I honestly think PSU will do.
@MVillani1985 When either team had a lot of green to defend, they would often force punts or even three and outs. As far as sustained drives, each team had three each, but I credit field position to that. Penn State's first sustained drive ended in a TD, their other two ended in punts (one right before halftime made it to I believe the Buckeye 37). But, Ohio State proved they were the better team by winning the slugfest in State College and more importantly, winning the Rose Bowl.
@72seeker72 To me it looked like a stubborn defensive struggle with neither defense yielding much, other than a couple big plays, Penn State seemed to answer Pryor's agility with a blitz (most of the game, Pryor seemed to struggle when the heat was on, but PSU's defense backed off later in the game). What really helped the Buckeyes out was the tilted field position, but at times, both teams moved the ball well, but I guess one could argue that defense helped set up field position.
@MVillani1985 Hi. Thanks for your message. I agree, but special teams alone didn't win this game for OSU. I mean, you saw the game, right? OSU dominated in the trenches. OSU's D-Line was especially dominant. PSU had no answer for Pryor either. I think in so many ways, OSU dominated Penn State in 2009.
@72seeker72 I was surprised that in 2009 Ohio State won, but the Buckeyes had a better special teams unit, which was enough to give them that extra boost to come out on top of a stubborn defensive struggle.
Very close game. Two teams that in the end were very similar as well. It all came down to the turnover by Pryor. With PSU losing a lot on the offense, I'm thinking OSU wins this year in Happy Valley. Don't go apeshit PSU fans, I show no disrespect for your program.
one of my favorite penn state games in history
