The Israeli company SPACECIALIST, in cooperation with the Center for Space Standards
and Innovation -- CSSI, analyzed the short and long term effects of a
collision in the geostationary belt. It was our concern that such a
Collision will affect not only the satellites involved, but can cause a
serious hazard that will contaminate a section of the geostationary belt
for a long period of time.
The research was based on a scenario in which a resident geostationary
satellite with mass of 2000 kg collides with a satellite in Geostationary
transfer orbit (GTO) with seven degree inclination and 200 km perigee
with a mass of 4000 kg.
