This is only the best option when you dont have a way to calculate the angle to the flagpole top, (an estimate is usually fine) then just find the TAN of the angle, then multiply times the distance between you and the object (use a conveinient distance, and estimate the angle from that point), in this case you only need one measurement, the chosen distance between you and the object.
