Karajan knows more music and orchestral conducting dead, than any one of you alive!
Karajan is the best ever!

Everything about 8:09 gives me chiils. Even Karajan.

A beautiful piece, by far Tchaikovsky at his most melancholic self. Great interpretation as well, thanks for sharing. I'd recommend listening to Karl Bohm's interpretation as well. A bit slower than Karajan's, which - for me - plays it more to Tchaikovsky's mood

@1987DiasJoao Because he was and is and always will be the MAN!

can the five "dislikes" tell why?

I'm so excited I will be playing this beautiful piece with the Symphony Orchestra at Texas A and M Kingsville! I've also played the 5th Symphony and I loved that one too!

And that's how the world ends.....not with a bang but with a wimper.

@eliasbb It's a bassoon. I played the 2nd bassoon part in the San Diego Youth Symphony Orchestra, and I spent a good hour on one day practicing just those last 3 minutes of the finale. Bassoons (and everybody in the symphony for that matter) couldn't have played the ending more perfect in the recording.

What is that very reedy/buzzing instrument near the end of the symphony? Bass clarinet? Bassoon? It sounds so beautiful.

If you know me personally it's very hard to make me cry. The first movement drove me to sniffles once. Oh woodwinds, you are soooo delicious......
