A young woman retreats to a lonely cabin in the woods in order to wrestle with her demons and the debilitating ailment that plagues her, in this riveting, atmospheric and gorgeously photographed portrait of isolation by Toronto filmmakers Calvin Thomas and Yonah Lewis.

An immersive and atmospheric exercise in pure cinema, Calvin Thomas and Yonah Lewis' follow-up to their impressive 2011 debut Amy George (an Official Selection at that year's Toronto International Film Festival) tells the story of a woman (playwright Claudia Dey) who retreats to an isolated cabin on the eponymous Oxbow Lake in the middle of a bleak Ontario winter. Graced by crisp, frost-bitten cinematography (by the directors and Ian Carleton) and an emotive musical score by Lev Lewis, The Oxbow Cure is at once a compassionate character study and lyrical landscape film, and also ambitiously (and startlingly) incorporates genre-film elements in a manner that recalls both the body horror of David Cronenberg and the enigmatic dread of Quebec auteur Denis Côté. "A delicate and mysterious fable ... this is what vital independent Canadian filmmaking looks like in 2013" (Adam Nayman, The Grid).
