...Why God, why today?
I'm all through here on my way
There's nothing left here that I'll miss
Why send me now a night like this?

Why God, why this face?
Why such beauty in this place?

"they" happened to be ally to the US during the Vietnam War instead of "mess" with the West or otherwise... Need a crash course in world history?

  • I'm thinking of seeing this at a Philadelphia theater next year and it seems like it will be an amazing show. I LOVE this song so i'm hoping i'll also like the play. I just can't stop listening to this.

  • I hope you will enjoy the show. There's nothing like the live experience "seeing" and hearing those songs on stage. I love listening to them again and again, which brings back a lot of bitter sweet memory...

  • his voice is not the best but his is the only version where i can literally feel the emotion....on that last "her!" i cry. every time. it's so powerful. this song is so incredibly sad just because you know what's going to happen in the end. he loves her, but knows it won't work...and that's the saddest feeling of all. thanks for posting!

  • Though it didn't work out but they both tried their best, well at least she did try her best by wating and enduring, as if life without him was not difficult enough. I tend to think that she died happy at the end (despite a tragic death), contented in her thought that all could be done have been done. For him, not as much...

  • I saw this on Broadway during my senior year of high school. That was back in 1996. These songs still send chills up my spine. I think they've stood the test of time..
