  • You can't breathe from your diaphragm... The intercostal muscles expand the rib cage pulling outward and downwards on the lungs, lowering the diaphragm creating a partial vaccum into which air naturally flows.

  • I hear what you're saying but not sure quite what you mean:-) Of course we can't physically fill the diaphragm with air, but if we think diaphragm when we sing, we can hear it in the voice. An audience can hear everything we think and feel when singing, and we feel primarily with the diaphragm and heart. Singing’s all about expressing emotion so we simply have to connect with the diaphragm or the song will have no truth.
