@AVitcampaign Shame! ..better luck in 20 years....

I think AV is better than FPTP, because MPs are treated fairer. With FPTP, the big parties always win, even though in many cases, more than half of the UK voted for someone else. Political parties get an unfair number of seats. Let's say Labour gets 20% of the votes. They will probably get something like 37% of the seats, while a smaller party, may get 7% of the votes, and is entitled to 7% of the seats, but instead doesn't get any seats.
-
In AV, in each round, everyone has one vote, or chooses to abstain since all their candidates have been eliminated. It is a better voting system, and it will not cost millions to use, it is just as easy to count the votes as in FPTP. VOTE YES TO AV!

We're voting yes. Why?
Why vote YES!
- MPs who represent the majority of their constituents, not the minority.
- A voting system which takes into account your preferences
- MPs reaching out to more voters
- An end to safe seat
- Your vote not being wasted
- Keeping out extremist parties whilst encouraging non-extreme small parties

@Saxmansamleeds STV presents its own problems just look at my countries (Australia) Senate, Labor however is in a much better position to pass legislation through the Senate because the Greens have the balance of power
-
@Saxmansamleeds they want Proportional representation instead. Interestingly so do the Lib Dems. Hence why Clegg called AV 'a miserable little compromise'.
-
@stoptheeu sorry- I intended the comment as a rhetoric to the suggestions otherwise!
AV will make it harder for extremist parties to creep in- I am a full supporter of the AV campaign (though would prefer stv though that's another matter!)
it's not £250m. That figure was made up by the NO campaign and includes the cost of the referendum, and voting machines that the Electoral Commission have said won't be used. The government has also confirmed no extra money would be needed for elections were AV to win.
AV is a much more intelligent way to vote, more fitting for the present day, and means that NO candidate can win when the majority of the constituency think they are the worst candidate, which is what can happen under FPTP.
