Advanced features and additional accessories.

On special request my second FX-3 tutorial: How to use the self-timer, how to use a cable release, how ot mount and use a flash and other tips and accessories for your Yashica FX-3 (Super 2000).

After having uploaded my first tutorial video for the FX-3 I was astonished to see how many young photographers still use these fine analog cameras instead of using digital cameras all the time! Recently I've got a request to make another video about the FX-3, and here it is! I hope it is useful for FX-3 users all over the world! If you have any question or observation, feel free to ask or comment! :-)

The basics of the FX-3 use can be found here:

  • @LZFILM ohh the flash was attached to the camera and yes i pressed the test button but there was no flash. Is there any replacement flash? :(

  • @QilahRosli

My first guess was that it might have been the contacts, if they are rusty (either on the camera or on the flash itself), the flash doesn't receive the order to flash from the camera. But if you tried out both possibilities it is probably the bulb.

Do you have an FX-3, or an FX-3 Super/FX-3 Super 2000? If it is the FX-3, you can use virtually every second hand automatic flash on the market (but not the TTL flashes that are newer!)

  • @LZFILM

About 30 years ago, the flashes had a photodiode for metering the light and regulating the light coming from their tubes. They had only one contact, the middle contact, for synchronizing the releasing of the camera and the flash. Modern TTL flashes don't need this photodiode anymore, therefore you can't use one of them (except in manual mode).

  • hello :D im kinda new to the fx 3. dad gave the fx 3 to me as a handmedown camera (i'm still thrilled though). the only problem is that the flash doesnt work anymore (i'm guessing its the bulb of the flash cus when i inserted batteries in it, the test button turned red as indicated by you means its ready but it didnt flash) what should i do?

  • @QilahRosli

Great to hear that you take pics with a FX-3! :-)

Did you press on the test button, and there was no flash, or did you release the camera with the attached flash?

  • Hello bro, I am using fx3 super and now when i changed the shutter speed and clicked while the back cover is open i got ma film advancer loose. now i could not make any clik could you help on this issue. the shutter is not released.

  • @vicky8531

Sorry for my late reply. Unfortunately I have no idea what might have caused the problems with your camera... I hope you could resolve it in the meantime!!

Yes, and it is really a nice feeling to move the aperture ring on the lens... it's never the same on a D-SLR, even in M mode...

    Thanks, I've subbed back! :-)

  • Yea defiantly! I also have a minolta 650si but I prefer my FX because I know the photos are a direct result of me. Unlike using a digital camera, say in A or S mode.

    #subscribed :)

  • @castro1293

That's true! It's still a little adventure (and very enjoyable) when you cannot see the image before you release the shutter, and when you cannot see the result directly afterwards! :-)
