@koasterkav I agree with you about the model 38 Ruth organ at Crescent Park. Considering the huge amount of music available for the model 38 scale (some of it familiar American tunes), there is no excuse for not converting it back to its proper format. If the clientele and operators insist upon hearing the same Wurlitzer 165 arrangements, a non-intrusive MIDI system can be part of the restoration to enable those arrangements to still be played. The ride operators should LEARN to play book music!

@koasterkav The purity of all of the pipe tones in Ruth organs was due to the extremely well-designed scaling of the pipes (scaling meaning the relative dimensions of each pipe relative to others in the rank, for example, how wide the mouth is, the diameter of the inside of the pipe versus its length, etc. as well as the shape of the mouth. The reed pipes (trumpets and trombones) also had special scaling as well, and I do believe all of the Ruth pipe scales were closely guarded company secrets.

@koasterkav the reason Ruth (and other Waldkirch-built) organs sound "churchy" is because the tonal disposition of the organ is much like that of a German baroque or classical pipe organ, with the foundation of the organ being stopped flute (or "diapason" if you like) pipes, with the additional ranks chosen on classical lines, for example 8', 4', 2 2/3', and 2; the latter three ranks forming the "mixture" which is controlled by the "Forte" register and creates the pleasantly piercing treble.

Ruth built the finest fairground organs ever.

Ruth organs have a great tonal quality. Sounds almost like a church organ, and has a great upper register for the high notes. Sadly the great Ruth organ at the Looff carousel in Rode Island sounds very poor now.

Amen, I feel its the same for all fair and street organs, then you can really find out where it came from.
