The band "Laihtumattomat" (the unslimmables) consisted of the workers of the LInkosuo bakery;
Accordion - Juhani Linkosuo, Tapani Jänne
Banjo - Matti Prepula
Guitar - Tuukka Wasama
Drums - Pertti Rosenwall
Singing - Sisko Uusitalo, Raimo Warën and Tuukka Wasama
This band played mainly for live audience in store openings and similar happenings, sometimes even in restaurants. They were not spoiled by having too much musical education, on the contrary, they imitate the style in Finnish music which was common to late 20s and 30s. For example the famous Dallapë orchestra had the exact same instruments in 1925 - two accordions, a banjo and drums. Original recording was made 1972-11-18.
**** About the pictures: The tradition goes as follows; a freshman (called fuxi) will be transformed into a student in technology (called teekkari) every 1st of May in Tammerkoski river located in the Tampere city center. Their white caps are brand new (given the day before) and symbolize the day. Even though the weather may be nice and even warm, the cold fact is that the lake that the water is coming from was still icy only a week ago. So, smiley faces are hard to find...
Different universities have usually a tradition of their own to celebrate the 1st of May, this one started in 1966. Tampere University of Technology was founded in 1965 as a branch of Helsinki University of Technology and became an independent university in 1972.
