My rarest video of cajun accordionist Nathan Abshire. Here playing his famous Pine Grove Blues (Ma' Negresse).Filmed at Fred's Lounge in Mamou, Louisiana in 1976. Features a small ending clip of another song(Been told it is "Allons A Lafayette"). The interview is of famous radio announcer and cajun historian Revon Reed. He is also broadcasting in the scene. Very rare video, I hope you all enjoy it.

I know I posted this video, but it still AWES me EVERYTIME I watch it.... it Mesmorizes me. He was SUCH an underrated musical artist. I wish I could have seen him in person or grasped the importance of his contribution to the cajun culture sooner than I did.

    Hi

Video is from March of 1976. The whole video I have is MOSTLY the interview with Mr. Revon Reed. I am posting the musical acts but other than this one the clips are very short. Thanks.

I'm Tejano and I truly appreciate the Cajun culture of Louisiana. Being from Texas where the Accordian has strongly influenced Southern Texas Music I can relate to the Cajun culture and appreciate my culture and where we are going. Long Live the Cajun!!!! Vive la Cajun. Your Tejano Friend

Leadbelly sang "black girl black girl" in his version so that's one of several traditional variations to the song. I wouldn't dare argue with Mr. Abshire on Cajun slang though, so if he says thats how the word is used I believe him.

In this video you can here Mr. Reed say, Bamboo Lounge. This lounge is on Hwy. 13, north a little past Mamou... I don't think it was at Fred's lounge. Have been to both and looks like the Bamboo. Born and raised in Eunice... Hope this helps..
