@dvsvol AMEN brother! Topcon is pure sh!t.Trimble is far more reliable. When I operate a machine equipped with a Topcon system, I know it will be a long, aggravating day.
-
@dvsvol I would love to know who your local Topcon Dealer is

You can compare Trimble's GCS900 (as seen in the video) to 3D grade control systems from Leica, Topcon and others at The Kellogg Report website.
-
@gottascuba Until your Topcon system breaks down after about a month in the field, and you can get anybody to help you get a replacement. Switched to CAT/Trimble equipment & will NEVER go back to TopCon.

Talk about replacing talented operators with worthless dumbasses. A good operator can move dirt and grade just as efficiently without that stuff. And what happens when that GPS goes down? Everyone goes home? Sounds like Advanced Earthworks in Victor MT, even the owners have no idea how to work without it, they just hit the switch and drive the machine around, sometimes with the blade not even touching the ground. Just saying there is no substitute for an experienced dozer hand.

Thats High Speed? I saw a lot of bounce in the blade. I would have loved to see the grade. Have you seen the Topcon 3DMc2. Now that is truly an awesome system. Even though you dont want to grade in high gears due to wear on the machine, you can run automatics full time in the highest gear possible wide open with the Topcon 3DMc2 and achieve perfect grade !

@erthmving it depends on the model. some models can be made in a few hours, others take a few weeks.
it also depends on who is making the model - you can make a model with just points, but it's going to suck. you need solid breaklines to define the surface and it seems like many model builders don't understand how to do that well.
so it varies from job to job. I prefer to make mostly subgrade models which are simple.

@happytobehim haha that's funny to think about but it's not true.
a lot of dozer operators can barely operate a cell phone, or a gcs900 system even though it's quite simple and very very user friendly. i know because i manage gcs900 systems here in california, and a lot of the old guys just can't figure it out.
-
it takes the operate out of operator you only need a dumbie to drive

how hard is it to create a model for gpe
It's totally GPS used, or it's complemented with smartstation or sg. ?

This is a Trimble dual GPS system that uses a base station for cross reference.

What does it mean when people talk about GPS in machinery? alot of people bitch about it in other vids. Is it in the cab to show exactly where to do things or is it being control remotely?

The GPS receivers on the blade allow the blade functions to be controlled automatically in a 3D realm according to the grade map that is loaded for a particular job site. Each machine has a monitor mounted inside that shows where the machine is on the job and the corresponding grade at which it should be on.
