I use long strips of fur, a glue gun, and a smile. Here's a walk through my technique!

*NOTE: Many burners have shared the tip: "Tearing fur (or cutting with a razor blade) will greatly reduce the amount of fur fuzz!"

  • approximately how many yards of fabric did it take to cover your bike? Thanks!

  • @h2ocolor28 1 yard should be plenty. If you have a big basket, that may need another 1/2 yard.

  • Those rolls of tape you were talking about? They should totally be called "moop mittens".

  • @bringatowel42 Nice!

  • Hey Halcyon, here's my quandary.. I have my shiny new cruiser, and I wanna fur it, but some day I might want to take off the fur and see it in all of its shiny, non-sticky glory. Have you taken the fur off to reveal nasty patches where the glue stuck? I'd do the glue thing, but I don't really want to damage the paint... Can you (or anyone) help me think of ideas for applying non-permanent fur to my bike?

  • @drpufftentacle - We are actually working on some solutions. But you could could try zip-tying on fur. It won't have the same coverage, but it will at least make it look mostly cool and be easily removed. <3

  • @halcyonstyn Would Goof off work? I also to have a new cruiser and want to fur it out but worried about the glue

  • you love it

  • From one burner to another, I just noticed you -- knowingly or not -- doing a Woody Allen mannerism at the 5 min mark when you give the "fate close to death" line. Hehe.

  • FYI tip: Most fur once you make a small cut you can rip it the rest of the way down and causes less fur all over the place...

  • @drpufftentacle

cut your strips of fur wider use the hot glue gun to apply strips of velcro. This is what I do around the down stem of my bike to hide the battery packs for the EL wire.

  • the best way to cut fur so it does not get everywhere it so use a RAZOR BLADE and cut from the back side. It takes a little longer but you make much of a mess :) hugs!

oh! also, put all the cut strips in the dryer after you cut them and run it on a no-heat cycle. The dust trap catches all the detached fur and leaves you good to go!

  • Halcyon! I figured out how to fur the bike without getting glue on the frame . It took a bit of time, but I cut up various lengths and widths of paper shopping bags and taped them all over the frame. Now the hot glue will go directly on the paper, and the frame will not be gluey! I'm about to commence operation fur right now. I've got my strips and my bowl of water. Wish me luck! Dusty hugs! See you on the playa :)
