The song is ΠΟΤΕ ΜΟΥ ΔΕ ΜΙΛΩ ΓΙ΄ΑΥΤΗ (when don't I talk about her), by Pantelis Thalassinos (Παντελής Θαλασσινός). The paintings are mostly from Anselm Feuerbach.

The models are: Giorgos Bavelis, Charis Plousis, and Giorgos Chimonetos.

Diomedes (Διομήδης) was from Argos (Άργος), beautiful and ancient. Some of the pictures of the landscapes are of this great city, which according to scholars, was one of the homelands of Pelasgians. Diomedes was a great warrior and became a king at a young age.

He was perhaps even more important than Achilles in the narrative of the Trojan war. He also led 80 ships, coming close to Agamemnon's 100.

During the Trojan war, Athena gives him the ability to recognize gods when they assume human form. He injured Aphrodite and derailed many of the plans set by the gods favouring Troy.

Alluded to in the video is Metempsychosis, the ancient Greek belief in reincarnation believed to have originated with Orpheus, and championed later on by Pherecydes (Φερεχύδης)and Pythagoras (Πυθαγόρας).

  • @Diomede5 Same here! I assume if one is really knowledgeable about the book, he'll root for Diomed too.

  • The great spearman Diomedes, fearless destroyer of Gods, the first militant atheist and an ancient misogynist. I was in a frenzy when reading about his attack on Ares and especially Aphrodite.

He truly is a timeless hero!

  • after watching this video I was up till 1 a clock in night reading the story of diomedes...I liked it very much...he was the favorite hero of Athena (my favorite godes), I want to be like him...I want to be the favorite of Athena

Yanitsaros please add more videos like this with greek heros and with Athena if possible...thanks a lot for video

  • Didn't Plato disregard Hesiod and Homer as spreading false stories?

In any case, many ancient Greek heroes were brought up by philosophers like Epameinondas, Philopoemen and Alexander. Some were philosophers themselves like Archytas of Croton. Others were shaped by the cirumstances like Agisilaus, Philip and Miltiades and others were guided by their own intrinsic virtue, like Timoleon and Aristeides.

  • and second ,though greeks of SOME period were not interested much in the afterlife, it does not make a big difference between them and SOME of other peoples of ancient times, though - take the jews of the PRE-EXILE times as an example- there is hardly any reference to sheol ( hades) in the bible , much less so than in the parallel greek literature.

  • i don't think you are right , Yanitsaros on the point of greeks' beliefs in the afterlife -first what greeks do you mean? those of 16-8century b.c of the mycaenic and homeric age? or maybe you lump together all the ancient greeks?
