  • at 3:00--looks like a scene from Brokeback Mountain!

  • Beautiful tune!

  • As for hating Italians, that may have come about from his dealings with mobsters.

  • @SatchmoSings Waring did not hate Jews. He had a few of them in his orchestra. What he did was say good things about Germany with Hitler in charge. Before World War II, of course. Because of this, a lot of people thought he hated them, even back then. But then people thought Charles Lindbergh and Henry Ford were anti-Semetic for the same reason. The notion that Waring's brother was gay won't die any easier than the rumour about Rock Hudson and Jim Nabors marrying.

  • @windsock3 That's a trick of the cymbal. If you've played drums, it's actually a pretty familiar sound.

  • Waring hated Jews and Italians and his brother, Tom, who played trumpet and sang was a homosexual; this drove his brother crazy.

  • @reizor1 --- I agree - this is the best recording I have ever heard of this song. The mood created by the orchestra and trio is perfect. No wonder it was a hit record when it came out.

  • thank you so much for posting this. It is always helpful to hear as many versions of a song as possible when learning how to play it, and this version sounds closer to the source of when it was actually composed than I've ever heard. I'm used to hearing Cannonball and Miles play this, or even Dex. Never heard this, you can really hear the subtle harmonic movements with the strings. Beautiful

  • What a beauty. Thanks for the backstory, henderpete. Not surprising in the least!

  • @henderpete OMG! Your Mother was Ida Pearson! She was just AWESOME indeed! You must be very proud of her. These songs done with there vocals by this orchestra are simply TOO DIE FOR!
