If cars had superpowers, the 2008 Volkswagen Touareg 2 V8 would be Captain Light Fantastic. Each time you start the VW Touareg 2, it salutes you with an impressive light show as the range-adjusting dynamic headlights calibrate themselves.

That's the story with this revised version of VW's sport-utility, as a range of exotic enhancements to the electronics expand its dynamic possibilities, while a number of luxury features have been added, like a stylish interior treatment and a power liftgate. It's a sport-utility with a superhero's range of special powers.

The Touareg 2 seems to have driven away from its VW heritage and become more like the Audi Q7 and Porsche Cayenne, with which the Touareg shares the fundamentals of its platform and powertrain.

Of course, this 2008 Volkswagen Touareg V8 rang the cash register to the tune of $55,750, and this makes us wonder, is the Touareg 2 now the sport-utility version of the Volkswagen Phaeton, a luxury sedan that never found its audience?

  • would you want the VW name on that expensive of a vehicle.. i say YES! volkswagen is trying hard to convince people that they are no longer the cracker box car that everyone can afford.. they are extremelty well built and made to last.. i know a lot of people look at my vw and think "oh its a vw" but the fact is; its prolly better than the car they are driving. i appreciate what vw is doing and wish more people would reconize the unbeatable craftsmanship of their vehicles as much as me! go VW!

  • who cares if its a volkswagen badge. They own bentley, bugatti, lamborghini, skoda, audi and seat and vw uses stuff from audi too and it doesnt mean the stuff comes from vw. the engine is from 1 of the S models from audi and the touareg looks like a porsche cayenne

  • Extra legroom in the back? are you mad? i sat in the front with endless space and then sat in the back with 3" of legroom free!

  • porsche audi price????????? touareg is 50,000 cheaper!!!!!

  • @myVW4LIFE @myVW4LIFE I'm not so sure about the "made to last" part. I have an '04 loaded Touareg V8 and I will say that the cost of maintenance is OUTRAGEOUS. Any upscale german car, VW included, is a big bag of problems once it hits 90-100k miles. I don't even have 70k on mine yet and I've already spent a considerable amount. Average MPG... around 10, tires well inflated and car is in proper working condition with no warnings/faults/errors. I will say that I LOVE my car though. L O V E !

  • yes you want the badge - evidently it makes the car affordable - it is the same as the porsche and the audi.......and yeah, all these other "more expensive" brands are made by Volkswagen anyway!

  • @myVW4LIFE I could not agree more man

  • god americans shuldnt make car reviews

  • YES

  • Love mine

  • just go back to the kitchen lady

  • Touareg is a very nice car!
