it's my absolute pet peeve. I am a statistician and while the average is 5 4 to 5 5 everyone --even in countries where the average is less like 5 3--refers to those under 5 6 as petite. I have even run across 5 6 and 5 7 women referring to themselves as shorties. I have friends who are under 5 0--think about how that makes them feel? someone towering over you complaining about being a shortie. I had a growth disorder during my teens and am 5 4, I consider it an INSULT to be labelled petite.

@megghegg I agree with you, when I used to work I just wore a t shirt and regular pants with no make up and I always got at least 1 compliment every week from a customer, also everyone always thought I wore makeup because I have very thick and black eyelashes and naturally dark pink lips and my color of my cheeks and they even ask if I wore eyeshadow because my eye shape and they are big brown eyes, and my complexion too. yet if i wanted to go to agencies I can't do runway shows because i'm 5'3

@isobellajade what i don't understand is that there are more beautiful women than those giant models that are 5'3 5'4 but are not able to be in the pages of vs or the cover or runway, they don't need to be giants to model some panties and a bra, and myself many people ask if i'm wearing makeup and they are shocked when I tell them I am not, yet those models need tons of makeup back stage. we can't change the color of our skin, i have seen many colors of skin model yet shorter women can't do it

Tyra hasn't done crap for petites, except 1 lousy show and the winner was 5'7 - not petite! They have agencies for +size women because most are +size, but 60% of women are under 5'4. I tried to make it at 5'3 when I was younger; I had to do freelance swimsuit and topless lingerie with photographers hitting on me. If I could do it again I would have done nudes, but it was a different time. Things have to change. I look at old photos and can't believe that I was so beautiful and didn't even know.
