Favourite Routines: Doina Staiculescu (ROM) - 1984 Olympics RSG AA - Ball

As I said on a previous favourite routine: I think old rhythmic gymnastics is superior to the current version in just about every way, and I love this ball routine by Doina Staiculescu at the 1984 Olympic Games, the first Games to include rhythmic gymnastics.

Although the boycott severely affected rhythmic gymnastics at this games with the Bulgarians and Soviets not present, Doina (16 years old at these Games) still performed wonderfully, winning the silver medal in the all-around. She was leading until her final routine when she had a disaster in her ribbon routine and dropped to second, just 0.05 behind gold medallist Lori Fung of Canada. The silver she won is still the only rhythmic gymnastics medal for Romania in an Olympic Games.

I'm imagining her ball is inflated with butterflies and LSD. What a magical routine. If she walked up to me and hurled the ball right into my face I would consider it an honor.

@skycub99 because I mean honestly, even though this routine was beautiful, the difficulty level of rhythmic gymnastics is so much higher today.
