  • JD Sumner. Yeah. The five decibel double low C monster? Pfft. Gimme a break, without a mic he would be powerless, while any church/opera/whatever singer has to fill the room with his sound.

Honestly, I'm suprised how well the southern gospel guys have people fooled. They literally eat up the mic, guys. A true basso profundo, on the other hand, will literally deafen you in his mid/high range if you are standing next to him. The low notes are no exception, loud and majestic, no need for a mic.

  • A voice which can be heard across the galaxy!

  • @Tonkiainen He is a deacon chanting a prayer as is often done in the Russian Orthodox Church -- chanting the words on a single pitch, rising a half-step with each new line. It is not supposed to have a melody, at least not in the ordinary sense.

  • would someone explain to me the glamour of this? i appreciate a resonating bass voice that can deliver a melody with great presence, this is just random shouting with no melody and not all that low even

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • @OperaBorealis Totally agree. The sound in his voice is a natural, and that of a basso profondo at the volume. It was a jab at the others who think that these singers need to hit a low C every song. I also think some don't realize that this guy is clearly not a high/lyric bass like Samual Ramey, It's definitely deeper and heavier, and thus must be a basso profondo.

  • @snoopyflick

He was a basso profondy without any doubt. He don't show his full range here (as professional singers should hesitate to do unless called for by the composer), but if you search a little on youtube you will find a scene from Ivan the Terrible were he sings a loud B1 and sounding like a octavist.

  • He is a basso profondo and a large one too. Just because he isn't going under F#2 and is not showing off his low range means nothing at all. His resonance is hellish, typical of a Russian oktavist, the F#2 sounds central on his voice and he sounds very close to his highest extreme on a D4, and that's enough. Whoever fails to understand that is youtube nincompoop or a frustrated baritone. By the way, whoever thinks profUndo is the correct spelling of profOndo is quite ignorant.

  • It's not a basso profundo, as we all know, any self respecting singer, sings his whole entire range in every single song they sing, even when it doesn't call for that.

  • Sorry but it's horrible to hear.

This is just power not devotion.

  • esta genial!!!!

  • if im not mistaken he was a deacon who became an actor
