Here is a segment from "Disneyland After Dark" that aired on Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color on April 15th 1962. This segment has the adorable Annette Funicello singing, "I Like To Dance" and teenage heartthrob Bobby Rydell singing, "Around The World". The swinging Elliott Brothers provide the great big band sound! Performing at the Plaza Gardens in Disneyland!

  • I was in love with Annette from the Mickey Mouse Club days and remember seeing every one of the Beach movies. I knew a guy who was one of the Disney "kids" on the Disney lot. He saw Annette on the lot but didn't know her. He said she was certainly very charismatic. I was saddened to find she had MS. I also know the Sherman Brothers who wrote many of Annette's hits. Two very nice gentlemen. They liked her a lot.

  • @alxndr01 Thank you for sharing these wonderful memories. It is very sad that Annette has M.S. She will always be one of America's sweethearts.

  • I loved this clip...great quality, too!

Annette looks so...different. And I don't know why. She's still just as beautiful as ever, just different. Hmmm. And I always liked Bobby Rydell. Nice song too!

This clip is a keeper. For one thing, my wife is gonna love Annette's dress. I gotta show it to her.

  • @ohhhwolfy I am so glad that you are enjoying the clip and thanks for letting me know. I adore Annette. She is one of America's sweethearts and always will be. So is Bobby!

  • Annette never looked cuter....Bobby Rydell impersonates BobbyDarin, and Annette dances with that other Bobby from the Lawrence Welk Show....Los Angeles must have been a VERY small scene in those days...

  • @terrryc Bobby Rydell did not have to impersonate anyone else. He was a star and very popular for himself and had several hits of his own. The Bobby that Annette was dancing with was known way before The Lawrence Welk show. He was a fellow child actor of Disney films and was in Song of the South and So Dear To My Heart. His last name was Driscoll.

  • @LoreneFaith actually Bobby's last name is Burgess. Bobby Burgess was my favorite on the Welk Show and was really cute in the Micky Mouse Show.

  • @LoreneFaith Exactly. I remember going with some of my South Philly buddies to a Phillies game in 1983. Bobby Rydel was there to sing the National Anthem. Anyone versed in music theory can tell you that the SSB is a very poor song. It has humbled many marquee singers. We didn't expect much from Bobby Rydel and just wanted it done with so the ump could say, "Play Ball." Well, Bobby Rydel sang the best rendition of the SSB that I had ever heard and still have ever heard.

  • Ya know,,, Here's one gal who can sing better than Hayley Mills.

  • @alxndr01 That's so neat. :) And yes, how sad to hear she came down with MS.... my grandmother was lost to it before I was born and I hate it for taking her away from my father before I could meet her. This whole video is wonderful!

  • a wonderful look at pre Vietnam America ............
