  • When babies r born out of how ever many were born what percent of them will usually survive? I'm thinking of breeding mine... but I don't want to many:)

  • @ilive4ballet6060 If you don't want too many, I wouldn't breed them. Even if you plan on adopting most of them out, you'll have to house them until they're big enough to give away, and a lot of stores won't take them until they're nickel-sized or larger.

If you can house, say, two hundred until they're at least dime-sized, and have local fish stores who are willing to take that many, ones you trust, then it's probably safe to go ahead.

  • @ilive4ballet6060 But, to specifically answer your question,

with my canas, I didn't notice that they had laid eggs until they had begun hatching. I never saw any babies, and thought they had all died in my big tank (since I didn't have a chance to set up a nursery tank), until one day I saw one! That baby lived.

  • @ilive4ballet6060 With the brigs, I tried to count how many I had when they were a week old. In that first week, maybe a dozen or less died, and I counted about a hundred and fifteen.

As they grew, nobody died. At one point, although I had tried to keep all of their tanks clean, they started to take a turn for the worse (too crowded!), so I started bringing them to local fish stores. When I counted them out (50 to each store), I realized I had over 200!

  • @ilive4ballet6060 I would, and probably will, do it all again, though. As I always do, I would like to recommend the forums on apple snail dot net, for advice and more info.

  • I have a 5' long x 24" wide x 20" tall... tank waiting for them

  • @mrbayway1 Also, jealous of your tank! I might be interested in adopting babies, once you've got it up and running.

Are your snails brigs? What color(s) are they? Super jealous - miss my tanks. I moved across country and had to give everyone away.
