As a british documentary, the narrators bias regarding the british chances of winning is noticeable. The japanese had fewer men, were poorer equipped and had less ammunition and still won. I guess he dont mention this.

The Japanese had lower-quality equipment but that equipment was in full supply. British forces (if fully equipped) had better gear but the higher priority of the war in Europe stripped forces in the area of necessary leaders and equipment.

Also, UK divisions are smaller than the Japanese ones were at the time.

More serious historians have noted the sheer hopelessness of the UK forces due to combined incompetence, lack of supply, and exhaustion.

The fall of Singapore lead to the massacre of mainly Chinese civilians in Singapore by the Japanese imperial Army . Had the British army being less complacent and be more prepare to defend Malaya and Singapore, things may turn out differently. Who knows, my grand uncle would be alive. He was taken by the Japanese after the fall of Singapore and never seen alive again.

Sources? General Tamashita himself said that if the British continued to fight, they (the japanese) would run out of ammunition and lose because of too few men.  If the british had been as brave as the japanese, they would not have been beaten in this battle.

@askjiir .... uhhhhh.... sources? What do you base that on? And the Japanese Empire had the decisive advantage here of have BETTER EQUIPMENT IN THE FORM OF AIR SUPPORT. Japan didn't need a hugely effective ground force if they could just pick the British away with bombers gun-planes and long range weaponry.
