@derekdb2 dude, you do know that passage is describing the making of a wooden idol god which was commonly painted silver and/or gold and then set up to be worshipped by the individual right? It doesn't deal with Christmas trees at all (if that's what you meant to imply).
3 For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5 They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
The first time I heard this I was dumbstruck- the whole song is great but it's the Funk Brothers that completely have me awestruck. The drums alone are a work of wonder- I don't know if it is Benny Benjamin or Richard Pistol Allen or Uriel Jones, but that is an outstanding drum pattern being played. I've never heard anyone outside of the Motown musicians who came up with more inventive playing. Of course James Jamerson is his usual phenomenal self as well as the guitaritsts. Great post!!
